| Average 2007 Salary Increases Rise In Mid-Atlantic Technology Firms | |
| The size of average salary adjustments in technology companies this year increased to 4.3%, according to results of the 2007-2008 survey of total compensation practices in Mid-Atlantic technology firms released by The Jaffe Group, State College, PA and KnowledgeBank Inc., McLean, VA. Salary increases for 2008 are projected to be at a 4.4% average rate. The average salary adjustments actually granted were above the previously projected rate for 2007 of 4.0%. "The annual average for salary pay change since the survey's inception in 1991 has been about 5.1%," according to study authors Bill Jaffe and Steve Rosenthal. "Although, the current economic conditions continue to impact both employers and employees alike, technology firms had had a gradual rise in spending over the past several years." Actual pay levels for the Chief Executive Officer position averaged $208,000 in base salary and $258,000 in total cash, including annual incentive payments. Average Chief Financial Officer pay declined to $140,000 in salary but significant increases were reported for the Top Business Development executive, who averaged $146,000 in salary and for the Top Technical Officer with an average of $153,000, the 17th annual survey reported. Based on responses from 110 firms with total employment of 40,508 and incumbent data from 2,790 employees, the survey median revenue was $5.1 million and the median staff size was 37 employees. The survey provides salary and incentive pay rates for 30 benchmark positions and also provides information on the prevalence of human resource and compensation practices. Forty percent (41%) of the survey participants are computer information systems affiliated and 91% of the companies are privately held. The survey was conducted by The Jaffe Group and KnowlegeBank Inc. and co-sponsored as a member service by technology councils in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
